Finding More in the Pilates You Already Teach

Do you feel like you are always searching for inspiration? The latest Instagram reel to help you keep your classes feeling “new” and “fresh”?

Maybe you don’t necessarily always need more exercises. You need to see more in the exercises you already teach.

This practical, hands-on workshop is for Pilates teachers who want to develop their teaching skills, deepen their understanding of the repertoire and get more from familiar exercises without constantly adding new material or changing the work itself.

We’ll explore what happens when we stop seeing an exercise simply as something to perform and correct, and start looking at the bigger picture and the links between the exercises.

We’ll explore:

Making familiar work fresh

How can you keep your mat repertoire interesting and challenging without constantly changing exercises or compromising the integrity of the work?

Beyond correction

Correcting our client is one aspect of teaching. We’ll look at how observation, touch, imagery, breath, questions and different teaching approaches can help a client understand and experience an exercise more fully.

The connections between exercises

The Pilates repertoire isn’t simply a collection of individual exercises. We’ll explore how exercises connect, how one movement prepares you for another, and why the order and relationship between exercises can matter.

Teaching the “why”, not just the “how”

What are we asking our client to do? What is the intention behind an exercise? And how does understanding this change the way we teach it?

Hands-on teaching skills

Develop your use of touch as a teaching tool, not simply to ‘correct’ alignment, but to help a client feel, understand and connect with movement.

Expect to:

• Revisit familiar exercises from a different perspective

• Develop your observation and teaching skills

• Explore hands-on techniques

• Discover new ways to challenge and engage clients without simply adding more exercises

• Unpick the relationships between exercises and sequences

• Develop a clearer understanding of intention

• Explore how apparatus can enhance your teaching

• Spend plenty of time moving, observing, discussing and teaching

This isn’t about giving you another list of exercises to add to your repertoire.

It’s about helping you become a more thoughtful, adaptable and confident teacher by looking at the work you already know with fresh eyes.

Come prepared to move, think, question and teach.
